DESCRIPTION

The Subject Specialist Role is responsible for the innovative implementation of pedagogical excellence across the school. The Subject Specialist works alongside, and utilises, intelligent agents in the teaching and learning environment to drive improved academic outcomes across the full scope of educational activities.

This position requires a forward-thinking, detail-oriented professional with a strong command of data interpretation, educational systems, and digital learning tools. Experience and expertise with a range of education technology and artificial intelligence platforms is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to navigate and optimise online learning environments. The position requires the individual to remain up to date and comfortable with the latest trends in educational technology to utilise these in their role.

The ideal candidate is a well-organised, growth-minded individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a passion for scalable and high-quality online education, and a firm commitment to educational equity. A comprehensive understanding of the South African curriculum and its regulatory requirements is a prerequisite.

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Pedagogical Practise

  • Employ a variety of dynamic teaching and instructional methodologies, with the aid of edtech tools and intelligent agents.
  • Use data insights and feedback to conduct lesson planning and delivery
  • Develop appropriate teaching solutions and strategies that target cohort level themes and areas of concern per course.
  • Develop and be closely involved in the moderation of Cycle tests, examinations and SBAs.
  • Ensure that the grading of formal assessments is of a high quality by providing guidance to markers through front-loading and complete post moderation for the assigned courses.
  • Ensure that informal assessment is appropriate and of a high standard.
  • Be involved in testing new education tools to assess their efficacy in a South African online school.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and updating of the learning path which may include content development as necessary.

Learner Experience

  • Be involved in learner enrichment activities offered at the institution
  • Support with academic queries related to assigned courses
  • Support with administrative tasks related to the learner experience.

Compliance

  • Play a key role in ensuring academic compliance for the assigned courses.
  • Ensure that marksheets are accurate, up-to-date and submitted timeously.
  • Ensure that all required moderation is accurate, up to date and submitted timeously.
  • Develop and implement an appropriate personal development plan with the guidance of their line manager that aligns with the requirements set out by SACE.

Team routines

  • Attend daily stand up meetings
  • Attend Company wide meetings
  • Attend relevant planning and retro meetings
  • Attend regular 1:1 meetings with their line manager

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience at secondary school level, with either BEd, PGCE, or relevant qualification.
  • Experience teaching the CAPs curriculum in Senior and FET Phase.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the requirements of the CAPs curriculum
  • Experience teaching in an online environment and using a Flipped Classroom methodology
  • Experience working with assessment and operational data to inform pedagogical practise and drive improved academic outcomes
  • Technologically literate including experience working with intelligent agents to promote positive academic outcomes
  • Police clearance required.
  • SACE registration or eligible to apply for SACE

  • A second screen.
